Description

The auxiliary boiler (Aalborg OL-20, s/n 08-4421) developed a tube leak on the furnace side and was taken out of service after repeated low-water alarms. The attending superintendent's inspection confirmed two ruptured smoke tubes and heavy scaling on the surrounding rows. We required an approved boiler workshop to attend the vessel in Gibraltar, renew six smoke tubes, carry out a full waterside inspection, chemically descale the remaining tube nest, and hydrostatically test the boiler to class requirements before the vessel's next long voyage. Class attendance for the pressure test to be arranged by the owner, with all works carried out while the vessel was alongside for bunkering and stores.
